Monday 27 Feb 2023 Corruption risks associated with major transport infrastructure projects

Victorian major infrastructure projects make up a complex sector that receives billions of taxpayer dollars each year. The 2022-23 Victorian State Budget committed $3.5 billion to public transport services and infrastructure. These major projects are under pressure to complete constructions and provide essential buildings and services for Victorians.

The Victorian community expects major infrastructure projects to be managed with integrity to ensure public funds are handled appropriately, and to minimise the risks of corruption.

Operation Watts was the first ever joint investigation conducted by IBAC and the Victorian Ombudsman. The investigation was initiated following two referrals, from the Attorney-General to IBAC, and from the Legislative Council to the Ombudsman, following allegations of 'branch stacking' involving misuse of public funds by certain Moderate Labor members of Parliament.

Monday 15 Mar 2021 Operation Grey
Operation Grey was an IBAC investigation into allegations of false record keeping by senior staff within the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria to meet performance targets. The investigation confirmed data had been modified but did not substantiate allegations of corrupt conduct. Opportunities to address several vulnerabilities identified during the investigation were found.
