IBAC charges a third Victoria Police officer over incident in Preston last year

Victoria's independent police oversight body, IBAC, today charged a third Victoria Police officer following an investigation into alleged excessive use of force on a man in Preston last year.

A Victoria Police senior constable has been charged with two counts of unlawful assault, and one count of encouraging the commission of an unlawful assault. Two Victoria Police officers were charged last Friday in relation to the same incident.

The charges are the result of IBAC's investigation into the conduct of Victoria Police officers when they attended a house in Preston to conduct a welfare check on a man in September 2017.

Court proceedings are scheduled to commence at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 11 October 2018.

As this matter is now before the Courts, IBAC will make no further comment.
