Operation Ross continues after public examinations conclude

Investigations into allegations of serious misconduct by Victoria police officers will continue following the conclusion of IBAC’s public examinations in Ballarat today.

This week’s public hearings are just part of IBAC’s Operation Ross examining alleged excessive use of force by Ballarat police officers, broader trends in such complaints against police, and how these matters have been managed by Victoria Police.

Operation Ross commenced in March 2015; however public hearings were adjourned until the High Court of Australia rejected appeals by two police officers and ruled IBAC could proceed.

As Operation Ross remains an ongoing IBAC investigation, anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.

Report police misconduct or corruption

A public report on Operation Ross will be released later this year.

As part of IBAC’s independent police oversight role, related research projects are being conducted on trends and patters in excessive use of force by Victoria police officers, analysis of the force’s management of ‘high risk’ officers, and an audit of how police complaints are being managed at the local level  – with reports on these projects to be released over the next year.
