Investigating corruption

We investigate complaints of corruption and police misconduct across the Victorian public sector, including Victoria Police. By law, we must prioritise serious or systemic corruption for investigation.

We may first conduct preliminary inquiries

To help us decide whether to investigate, we can request you to produce information and documents (or other things) as part of a preliminary inquiry.

We can investigate without receiving a complaint

These are called ‘own motion’ investigations and are initiated by our Commissioner.

Only a small number of complaints are investigated
