New research surveying senior Victorian public servants has highlighted challenges in managing corruption risks and identifying and preventing corrupt conduct.The Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) and the Australian National University (ANU) have released findings from a survey of more than 800 senior public sector employees on their perceptions of corruption in the Victorian public sector.

More than 600 complaints alleging corruption or police misconduct, including 131 protected disclosures, were assessed in the initial months of the newly-established Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC), according to its first annual report published today.

The Victorian Ombudsman’s report A section 25(2) report concerning the constitutional validity of aspects of Victoria’s new integrity legislation tabled in Parliament today cites legal advice the Ombudsman has obtained which calls into question the constitutional validity of the Integrity Accountability Legislation Amendment Act 2012.

Public sector agencies are being encouraged to review their management of fraud and corruption as part of International Fraud Awareness Week, which runs until Saturday 9 November.

An IBAC report, released today, presents detailed findings of a thorough review of previous investigations into this matter by the Office of Police Integrity (OPI) and the Victorian Ombudsman.
